Editorial standards

Our promise is "advice first, quotes only when youre ready." These editorial standards are how we keep that promise.

Sourcing

Every figure quoted (grant amounts, payback periods, tariffs, costs) is sourced from a named, public body or industry source. We name the source in the article or hyperlink to it. Where ranges are given, we explain the assumptions.

Primary sources we rely on include: MCS (Microgeneration Certification Scheme), Ofgem, the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ), the Energy Saving Trust, the Office for National Statistics, and reputable industry trade bodies.

Fact-checking

Every guide is fact-checked before publication. Where applicable, we ask a relevant practitioner (e.g. an MCS-certified installer or chartered engineer) to review for technical accuracy.

Updating

Grant amounts, tariffs and VAT rules change. We review every guide at minimum every 12 months, and as soon as were aware of a material change. The "last updated" date at the top of each guide reflects the most recent review.

Corrections

If you spot an error, please tell us at contact@homeenergyhq.co.uk. We correct factual errors promptly and disclose material corrections with the updated date.

Independence

Editorial decisions (what we cover, what we recommend, how we phrase trade-offs) are made independently of commercial relationships. Advertisers and affiliate partners cannot pay to change editorial copy. See our affiliate disclosure for the full picture.

AI use

We use AI tools to assist with drafting, research and summarisation. All AI-assisted content is reviewed and edited by a human before publication, and final responsibility for accuracy rests with the named editor.
